In 1984, Pierre-Yves Mahé, a keen photographer attracted by new technology, starts Spéos, a photography school with an international vocation. He creates links with prestigious universities (Rhode Island School of Design, Hamilton College, Chicago Art Institute, RIT) that send him their students as part of their program.
In 1991, Spéos starts a year-long training and uses its know-how to the profit of companies and photographers wanting to learn new skills based on recent technology.
Spéos has participated and contributed to the evolution of photographic knowledge: originator of a B&W printing process «The Stop-System» , a transmission kit with Sagem, an image search engine «PixOclock.com», the restoration of Nicéphore Niépce's House where the first photograph was taken and the publication of the unpublished letters and notes by Niépce («Niépce, Correspondances et Papiers») which are of the upmost historical importance.
